Bob Sanders Scirocco Bass Trombone Mouthpiece – The Retirement Powerhouse
Inner Rim Diameter: 1.112" | Throat Diameter: .302" | Medium Cup Depth |

Born in retirement, the Scirocco (named for that warm, powerful wind) is Bob Sanders' lighter-breeze take on bass trombone perfection — a mouthpiece that delivers serious punch without demanding the full airflow or embouchure commitment of bigger designs. Bob wanted something smaller and more efficient for easier, more enjoyable playing, so we started with a beloved piece Larry Minick crafted for him decades ago, added Bob's personal alterations, and infused Giddings' signature stainless steel efficiency. The result? A balanced, responsive mouthpiece that's super versatile — medium cup depth for warm, centered tone; comfortable rim for all-day support; and a not-too-large throat for quick articulation, effortless projection, and dynamic freedom. It responds beautifully across the entire horn, from pedal lows to upper extensions, with vibrant sound, clarity, and that classic Sanders core.

Key benefits that make the Scirocco shine:

  • Super efficient & punchy — Less demand on air and chops, but plenty of power and projection for any gig or practice
  • Exceptional versatility — Covers orchestral depth, big band warmth, solo work, and everything in between — responds great all over the horn
  • Comfortable & fun — Medium cup and rim feel secure and fatigue-free; stainless steel adds bonus ease and durability (hypoallergenic, no replating needed)
  • Rich, balanced tone — Sounds wonderful without overdoing size — warm, focused, and musical, perfect for players who want efficiency without sacrificing presence
  • Retirement-ready reliability — Built for pros who still love to play, teach, or just enjoy the horn — easier than bigger mouthpieces but with pro-level performance

Bob Sanders on the Scirocco:
"The Scirocco had its genesis in my retirement. I thought something a little smaller might be in order. We started with a piece Larry Minick made for me decades ago with a few alterations I suggested and added some Giddings magic and voila! However, it turns out I still love my signature model best, but this piece is just excellent and deserves to be available. It doesn’t demand the airflow and embouchure strength of a bigger mouthpiece but responds great all over the horn and sounds wonderful. The comfort of steel is a bonus." – Bob Sanders

Bob's original signature remains his daily favorite, but the Scirocco is the excellent sidekick that deserves its spotlight — lighter, more forgiving, and packed with punch. Ideal for bass trombonists seeking efficiency, fun, and that timeless Sanders sound in a compact package. Whether you're retired, semi-retired, or just wanting a versatile workhorse, this is the breeze that carries serious force. Grab the Scirocco and feel the retirement glow — powerful, playful, and pure gold.
