Alan Baer Signature Series – The Pinnacle of Orchestral Tuba Mastery

"I've been playing Giddings exclusively since 2005. I've still yet to find any mouthpiece on the market that would make my job easier!"
— Alan Baer, Principal Tuba, New York Philharmonic.

In the demanding world of elite orchestral tuba playing — where every note must anchor the ensemble with unyielding power, precision, and endurance — one name stands supreme: Alan Baer. Forged from the finest grade stainless steel (harder, faster-responding, and infinitely more durable than standard brass mouthpieces), these mouthpieces represent the ultimate evolution of tuba equipment. Harder materials transfer your musical energy instantly — clearer, more impactful, straight to the audience — while dramatically boosting stamina and slashing fatigue in the longest, most grueling performances. Since 2006, we've elevated the original Alan Baer design into the legendary MMVI (best-selling), adding a flatter, narrower rim, extra mass around the throat for unbreakable low-end grip, and that signature stainless sound. The result? More core projection, crystal clarity, effortless articulation, and ironclad control — the only mouthpiece you'll ever need on CC tuba. Here are the crown jewels of the Alan Baer lineup:

MMVI Signature CC Tuba Mouthpiece – The Best-Selling Orchestral Legend
Rim Diameter: 1.295" (32.91mm) | Throat: .321"

Medium funnel cup in premium 15-5 stainless steel. Traditional flat rim with sharper bite, added throat mass for massive low-note grip, explosive core projection, and zero-fatigue endurance. Designed for the biggest halls and toughest excerpts — rich focused overtones, pinpoint pitch, and effortless response across the entire range.

Original CC Tuba Mouthpiece – The Timeless Foundation
Rim Diameter: 1.295" | Throat: .321"
Alan Baer's original masterpiece: perfect balance of rich tone, total control, and versatility. At home in the largest orchestra, it delivers focused overtones, great projection, easy articulation, and rock-solid intonation — the one-piece solution for CC tuba dominance.

Alan Baer Original F Tuba Mouthpiece – Seamless  Continuity
Rim Diameter: 1.295" | Throat: .295"
Exact rim size and shape as the CC counterpart — genius for effortless switching between tubas. Shallower cup and smaller backbore craft the ideal F tuba voice: brilliant in large orchestras or as a solo weapon, with clarity, projection, and control that never compromise.

Alan Baer MMVI F Tuba Signature Mouthpiece – Orchestral F tuba Perfection
Same revolutionary upgrades as the MMVI CC: flatter/narrower rim, added throat mass,. Updated inner bite for precision, enhanced endurance, and orchestral-grade power on F tuba.

Alan Baer MMX F – Solo mouthpiece
Rim Diameter: 1.295" (slightly wider overall) | Throat: .295"
Shallower cup than the standard F, with similar throat/backbore. Brighter tone for cutting solo work, yet seamless integration with the full Baer family.

Alan Baer Beltane F – Chamber Power
Rim Diameter: 1.295" | Throat: .295"
Shallow cup with wider throat mouth — finished around the ancient Beltane festival fires (April 30th, midpoint to summer solstice). Create the exact sound needed without forcing your chops — preventing issues while delivering stunning quintet performances with  projection and agility. This isn't just equipment — it's the trusted choice of one of the world's most demanding orchestral tubists, day in and day out. Giddings Mouthpieces: Unparalleled craftsmanship, the largest stainless steel selection, superior materials that last a lifetime. Harder. Faster. Clearer. More impactful.

Experience the difference that has redefined orchestral tuba playing for two decades.

ieces uses the finest materials available.

Alan uses our mouthpieces day in and day out in one of the most demanding orchestral jobs in the world.  In 2006 we redesigned our original signature piece that we still offer and created the MMVI models mouthpieces. The MMVI has more grip on the low notes, and projects more core of sound along with clarity into the audience compared to other mouthpieces.  This increases endurance and all but eliminates fatigue.

MMVI Signature Mouthpiece *Best Selling*
Alan Baer and Giddings and Webster have taken the original Signature Model mouthpiece and put a flatter narrower rim on it. In addition to this we have added a bit of mass around the throat of the mouthpiece, and we have made the mouthpiece out of 15-5 stainless steel. All of this combined makes a mouthpiece that is for folks who like a traditional flat rim with a sharper inner bite for their orchestral tuba playing needs. The 15-5 stainless steel is a high quality aerospace material that is harder than our regular 304 stainless steel mouthpieces.

Original CC Tuba Mouthpiece
Designed for Alan Baer, Principal Tuba New York Philharmonic. Alan designed this mouthpiece to be a perfect balance of sound, control, and functionality. At home in the largest orchestra and designed as the only mouthpiece you will ever need on CC tuba. This mouthpiece delivers rich focused overtones with great projection, easy articulation, and consistent pitch throughout the range of the tuba. Cup diameter 1.295,and throat diameter .321.

Alan Baer Original F Tuba Mouthpiece
Alan requested that we design a mouthpiece for F Tuba with the exact rim size and shape as the orchestral CC tuba mouthpiece. This ingenious design allows individuals to switch from one tuba to the next while retaining the same setup on the embouchure. The F Tuba mouthpiece has a shallower cup and smaller backbore that creates an ideal F Tuba voice. The Alan Baer Signature Model F Tuba mouthpiece is at home in a large orchestra and as a solo mouthpiece. Rim 1.295, throat .295

Alan Baer MMX F - Solo Stainless Steel Standard Shank
The Alan Baer MMX F solo piece has the same inner rim diameter as the other Baer pieces although the rim is just a little wider overall. The cup is shallower than the F Tuba piece, however the throat and backbore are very similar. Overall the solo piece is designed to have a slightly brighter sound but seamlessly transition to the other mouthpieces in the Baer lineup.

Alan Baer Beltane F - Solo Standard Shank
The Beltane was finished late in April, and Al and I were both enjoying family time outside around fires. As it turns out Beltane is held on 30 April, or halfway between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Bonfires are a key part of the festival marking the beginning of summer.
"Recently I was asked, 'Why would a tuba player need a solo mouthpiece?' My response was, because it's the right tool for the right job. No single piece of equipment will do everything the best. I'm expected to perform everything to the absolute best of my ability. If I'm fighting a piece of equipment in any way, it detracts from my performance, period. The new solo mouthpiece allows me to create a great cutting solo sound that will allow me to cut through an ensemble as well as allow me to play the extremes of the instrument with ease! This is a mouthpiece that allows me to create the sound that I need without having to do unnatural things with my chops that could eventually cause problems." -Alan Baer
