Taku Tuba Mouthpiece – Deep, Dark, & Devastatingly Versatile

Inner Rim Diameter: 1.295" | Throat: .325" | Cup Depth: Deep Funnel

Named after the ferocious Taku wind — that hurricane-force east-northeast gust roaring through Juneau, Alaska, at the mouth of the Taku River from October to March — this mouthpiece unleashes a depth of tone that's pure black-on-black darkness in the dead of night. Same rim and deep funnel cup as the Williwaw, but with a maxed-out backbore and venturi that floods your sound with shadowy, velvety richness and massive low-end authority. The Taku perfectly fills the sweet spot between the Bayamo and Williwaw: you get the warm, projecting soul you love from the Bayamo, but in a slightly smaller, easier-to-control 1.295" rim. Darker and deeper than the Williwaw, it delivers a warm, enveloping tuba tone that balances perfectly against strong trombone sections while still cutting through any ensemble with effortless power.

Why the Taku is a player favorite and do-it-all legend:

  • Ultimate dark depth — Maxed-out backbore + venturi for shadowy, organ-like richness and thunderous lows
  • Perfect bridge size — Bayamo warmth in a more controllable rim — ideal for all ensembles
  • Warm projection powerhouse — Balances brass sections beautifully while filling the hall with velvety tone
  • Versatile & forgiving — Handles orchestral depth, concert band weight, brass band punch, and more — one mouthpiece for everything
  • Effortless control — Deep funnel + open throat means easy airflow, secure slotting, and zero fatigue

If you crave that profound, midnight-black tuba sound with total versatility and control — the Taku is your storm. Deep. Warm. With the dark sweet sound we love tuba for.
