Starting with just an idea to improve mouthpieces
- Giddings and Webster has grown to develop and deliver the finest mouthpieces
available anywhere.
Robert Webster
has worked as a machinist and toolmaker for over
thirty years. During this time Bob has become a master at his trade
- able to make any object imaginable. Bob's demanding profession requires him to make high precision tools with machined tolerances that are literally less than a split hair.
Ivan Giddings has his masters in tuba performance from Pennsylvania State University, and is a tuba teacher and performer by trade.
Ivan teaches at the University of Puget Sound
Community music department in addition to his full
time private low brass studio. Ivan
also performs in numerous
ensembles in the Puget Sound area. In his efforts to improve response,
articulation, and overall ease of playing he was led to mouthpiece design.
The teachers that have heavily influenced Ivan are Robert Harold, Rex Turner, Marty Erickson, and Arnold Jacobs.
Bob and Ivan met in November 2000, each with their first prototype stainless steel mouthpieces. They were impressed with what
the other could do, and the Giddings & Webster collaboration began. After three years of discussion, prototypes,
and research and development the
two had created a truly
unique line of mouthpieces unlike anything in the
world.
These mouthpieces sounded, responded, and played
better than anything on the market.
Today, while the
company has grown - Ivan and Bob still are ever improving the design and
manufacturing of stainless steel and titanium mouthpieces. Their diligence
towards constantly striving to create perfection in their mouthpieces means that
GW mouthpieces will meet the needs of players everywhere in any playing
situation. New mouthpieces are always in the works - and Ivan and Bob are
always listening and developing in order to stay the world's leader in stainless
steel and titanium mouthpiece design.
